Resilience

Resilience is a terrific quality, which helps you develop a mental toughness to help absorb the “hard things” and come back stronger than ever.

Body – Mind – Spirit

Martial arts helps develop the body, mind and spirit. Therefore, we do not just teach effective self defence and incredible fitness to the students. We also teach resilience and determination to keep going, even when things get hard. Winners never quit and quitters never win!

Needs Of The Situation

Resilient people have an adaptability to change to the needs of the situation. I know it is hard to let things go sometimes, particularly when you feel ‘’I am right’’. This is the ego talking. You need to have the courage (which is calmly accepting reality) to keep on doing what must be done, and then fortitude (which is courage over time). Resilience also involves cunning, as you must understand you as well as the things / people bothering you.

Benefits

But think of the benefits of resilience. Resilient people are good to hang around, as they do not complain. Resilient people are ready for the unexpected, so they can go with the flow. They know that bad things can happen, but they focus on moving on.

Resilience is a timely talk of the week for me. I am training for this year’s world championships. To start with, my motivation was high. However, I am now forced to accept that life and emotions can get in the way. The body is also not as young as it used to be. For me, this is where resilience takes over from motivation. I am not going to get better by letting it get me down. I just have to keep showing up and doing what needs to be done. And that I will do.

Winners Never Quit and Quitters Never Win

For this week, show resilience and let go of the things in your life that bother you. Better still, check out our timetable for “martial arts classes near me” and show how mentally strong you are…in the dojo!!! And remember…winners never quit and quitters never win!!!
